Mid-Atlantic Solar + ESS Project Developer

Sol Source Power is seeking an experienced Solar + ESS Project Developer to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in renewable energy development, with a particular focus on greenfield solar projects and energy storage. This role will be responsible for managing the entire solar project development lifecycle, from origination to construction and operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Summary Reporting to the Chief Development Officer.
  • Identify and evaluate potential solar and energy storage project opportunities in multiple markets, including site identification, preliminary feasibility analysis, and project economics.
  • Develop project proposals and presentations for potential customers, including financial analysis, project design, and project schedules.
  • Work with internal and external land specialist(s) to pursue site control. Meet and negotiate with potential project landowners to acquire site control and to provide project information and support when needed.
  • Negotiate land lease agreements, interconnection agreements, and power purchase agreements (PPAs) with relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage project development tasks including permitting, interconnection, engineering, cleaning up title, tax negotiation and lease negotiations.
  • Work closely with project finance and operations teams to complete due diligence and work through project complexities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project implementation, including project managers, engineers, and construction teams.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including utilities, regulatory agencies, landowners, and buyers.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, policy changes, and technological advances in the solar industry.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in solar and/or energy storage project development or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the solar and energy storage industry in the Mid-Atlantic, including state policies, incentives, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate project economics, market trends, and risk factors.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating complex agreements, including land lease agreements and power purchase agreements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Experience with GIS mapping or similar software applications.
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting processes, state and federal agencies.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a team.

  • $172,692.00 Base Salary
  • 6% Commissions based off project margin within territory pipeline

We are seeking a Junior Project Developer to be a key player in the development of Solar PV + ESS projects in the state of Illinois. The job includes supporting tasks, starting with research and cold acquisition of potential land for lease, initial contact with landowners, presentation of the project idea to local community representatives, research involving utility companies and interconnection capacity.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to Development Operations Manager – Emily Marchese
  • Support and directly manage the development of projects in Illinois as a key member of a team
  • Work with the Origination, Engineering, Design and Project Finance teams
  • Review initial project proposals and siting, as well as local bylaws
  • Generate initial site design, and understand interconnection challenges
  • Identify, propose, and implement creative or alternative project development approaches
  • Communication and participation in negotiations with landowners to discuss investment and realization possibilities.
  • Ad-hoc support within the development team as well as responding to requests for proposals or their preparation
  • Work with internal and external land specialist(s) to pursue site control. Meet and negotiate with potential project landowners to acquire site control and to provide project information and support when needed
  • Optimize development schedules
  • Manage due diligence on development, including comparison and prioritization of multiple opportunities based on common siting, permitting, interconnection, power-marketing and other project metrics
  • Specialty campaigns (avg: 5-7 hrs of work per week)

 

Qualifications:

  • Flexible and pragmatic disposition, high self-motivation, curiosity and interest in working in a varied environment
  • Initial experience or understanding of solar PV and ESS
  • Highly proficient working with MS Office, especially Excel

 

Expansion of Role after on-boarding:

  • Become a notary
  • Running campaigns independently and securing LOIs & Leases
  • Attending Site walks
  • Attending Planning Boards (to shadow)
  • Attending Planning Boards for bylaws
  • Negotiating leases with attorneys
  • Negotiating property taxes
  • Deciding lease rates, milestones, and escalators
  • Pulling title and other Phase 0 & Phase 1 tracker items

  • $101,088 Base Salary

Sol Source Power is looking to hire a high performing, self driven Civil Engineering leader who will manage civil operations (mostly external subcontractors) through the project development cycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface closely with development, engineering, finance, and construction teams
  • Support business development and operations by preparing design calculations and engineering drawings (or having them prepared by an outside consulting firm)
  • Lead or participate in project meetings and conference calls
  • Provide verbal and written project status updates and reports
  • Ensure final documentation is accurate and complete for all project work and permit filing
  • Review, analyze, and critique project designs and technical documents (e.g. permit applications, environmental reports, surveys, geotechnical reports, engineering scopes/contracts etc.)
  • Assess projects for risk and cost considerations, and provide recommendations for mitigation and value-engineering
  • Manage and approve sub-consultant contracts
  • Interpret permitting regulations and requirements and identify compliance issues
  • Assist with due diligence activities related to project financing
  • Conduct site feasibility evaluations assessments and constructability evaluations

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of civil engineering design and permitting experience in site development
  • PE License
  • Familiarity with the site development process and permitting requirements
  • Proficiency in Hydrology and Stormwater Management Design
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Ability to effectively direct and manage detailed civil design work performed by outside consultants.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with others effectively within the corporate environment
  • Ability to take direction, identify problems, develop solutions, conduct analysis independently and in collaboration with others
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Creative thinker with the ability to make decisions and execute effectively
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to follow up and follow through

  • Experience in renewable energy (PV and/or BESS)
  • Experience working on projects in Illinois, Maryland and/or New York

Sol Source Power is seeking a Development Engineer (DE) to help manage a growing project pipeline through various stages of the development cycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Optimize solar and storage project strategies to identify appropriate technologies and capacities/durations to achieve project objectives
  • Collaborate with Project Finance team to review financial model to troubleshoot and quality control assumptions developed to inform project strategy
  • Responsible for creating, reviewing, and managing engineering deliverables needed to initiate utility review and approval for project interconnection for solar and storage opportunities
  • Coordinate with Development team to analyze grid and land attributes to aid in prospecting / site origination efforts
  • Perform site analysis by preparing various iterations of conceptual design, energy and financial models to help optimize project performance
  • Collaborate with the COO, Director of Development Engineering, and Development Team to value engineer projects prior to and throughout the local permitting process to ensure constructable system design with manageable and predictable costs
  • Perform detailed production analysis necessary to defensibly support estimated project production during project marketing process for solar, solar + storage and standalone storage
  • Coordinate with the project finance team to respond to prospective project buyer’s technical questions during project acquisition diligence.
  • Assist with the development and review of design and modeling standards, standardization of equipment specifications and scopes of work in support of project design
  • Assist the COO with the generation of project EPC RFPs, including participation in the review and de-scoping of project proposals
  • Prepare engineering deliverables or review submittals from third-party consultants necessary to issue POs on long-lead equipment for solar and storage components
  • Evaluate designs and integration proposals for adherence to internal and external industry standards
  • The DE will be responsible for clear communications and effective interactions both internally within the Company and with Company consultants, contractors, clients, and partners
  • The Development Engineer must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in communicating complex technical topics with non-technical audiences

 

Task Breakdown:

The DE’s time is anticipated to be allocated according to the following estimates:

  • Utility Interconnection Application Submission/Coordination – 30%
  • Development Layout Support for Permitting – 30%
  • Solar and Storage Project Optimization – 20%
  • Engineering Support and Company Collaboration – 10%
  • Time spent educating non-technical team members – 10%

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering with minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Familiarity with financial modeling and relevant terms and considerations that would support development and implementation of project level strategies
  • Capable of working through utility specifications for interconnection and responding to utility comments on project interconnection design
  • Experience with industry standard and energy modeling tools and software solutions (ie: AutoCAD, PVsyst, PVCase or equivalent, preferred)
  • Familiarity with all aspects of project design, including some exposure to electrical, civil and mechanical engineering
  • Understanding of National Electric Code and other model codes
  • Self-motivated predisposition with a deep sense of curiosity and aptitude for independent learning and thinking
  • Enjoys explaining the technical parts of your work to non-technical team members
